Irrigated Eden : The Making of an Agricultural Landscape in the American West
coverConversations on the Uses of Science and Technology by Norman Hackerman, Kenneth Ashworth (Contributor).

Hackerman's views on the dependency of mankind upon science and technology is juxtaposed with Ashworth's different opinions to provide a fine personal survey of the problems scientists and society face as governments change perspectives and goals - and thus, funding. The importance of scientific experimentation and freedoms is explored in a fine dialogue between the two individuals, recommended for college-level courses in science.

The Consortium on Green Design and Manufacturing
The Consortium on Green Design and Manufacturing (CGDM) was formed in 1993 to encourage multidisciplinary research and education on environmental management and pollution prevention issues in critical industries. Faculty and students in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Architecture, the School of Public Health, and the Haas School of Business, together with their industrial and public sector colleagues strive to meet the following objectives:

Form multidisciplinary research agendas among engineering, management, public health, architecture and policy faculty members to address the inherently cross-disciplinary issues of environmental management and pollution prevention.
Integrate green design and manufacturing issues into the curriculum so that students in engineering, business, and energy and resources are exposed to and learn approaches for solving problems in these areas.
Establish collaborative research with industry partners in the critical commercial sectors of electronics and computers, aerospace, automotive, automotive and construction.
Establish channels of support and information exchange with governmental agencies at the city, regional, state and federal levels.
Serve as a facilitator for dissemination of information on green design and manufacturing for businesses, governmental agencies, and the non-profit sector.
