Topics that interest students -- especially students new to philosophy -- are often tied to popular cultural moments depicted in film and television. If you can hook your students into investigating something interesting about the thoughts and their implications within almost any subject, your job is half way finished. At that point you can direct the student toward one or more philosophical disciplines, such as the philosophy of history, or philosophy of education, or existentialism, or American and British Analytic ...certainly one of the most fulfilling aspects of teaching philosophy is the thrill and satisfaction of directing the student toward something interesting to think about, and something that will excite the student because they have been looking, hitherto unsuccessfully, for just such an investigative avenue.
